…A famous library founded in 1867 by Anton Philipp Reclam (1807-96), who founded the Reclam Publishing House in Leipzig, Germany in 1828, and his son Hans Heinrich R. (1840-1920). Its original name was Universal-Bibliothek, but in Japan it is generally called Reclams Bibliothek, named after the publisher. It contains a wide range of excellent works from Germany and other countries around the world, including literature, philosophy, religion, art, music, politics, law, economics, history, geography, and natural science, and is generally a small, inexpensive, popular edition with one star for each 100 pages. It is known for its careful selection of content and precise editing, but is also characterized by the fact that it contains many translations of foreign literature and few essays or diaries. …
