Kusasenri Beach - Kusasenri Beach

The crater remains of Senrigahama Volcano, which was active as a lateral volcano on the northern slope of Mount Eboshi (1,337 meters), one of the mountains that make up the central cone of Mount Aso in northeastern Kumamoto Prefecture. The wide and shallow double crater remains, 1,140 meters above sea level and about 1 kilometer in diameter, have depressions facing almost east and west on either side of a small hill in the center, and the entire area is grassland except for the center of the depression where rainwater has accumulated. The lava flowed by Senrigahama Volcano can be seen widely on the west side of the crater rim, and is called "obsidian," which is the most acidic and glassy of the Aso Central Crater Cones. The Aso Mountain Road runs north of the crater rim, allowing visitors to enjoy the magnificent natural scenery of Aso throughout the four seasons. Furthermore, the grass-covered crater remains are used as a pasture for cattle and horses.

熊本県北東部、阿蘇火山(あそかざん)の中央火口丘を構成する山々の一つ、烏帽子岳(えぼしだけ)（1337メートル）の北斜面に側火山として活動した千里ヶ浜火山の火口跡。標高1140メートル、直径約1キロメートルの広く浅い二重の火口跡には、中央の小高い丘を挟んでほぼ東西に対する窪地(くぼち)があり、雨水のたまった窪地の中心を除けば、全域草地となっている。また、千里ヶ浜火山の流した溶岩は火口縁の西に広くみられ、阿蘇中央火口丘群のなかではもっとも酸性の強い、ガラス質に富む「黒曜岩」とよばれている。火口縁の北には阿蘇登山道路が通っており、四季を通じて阿蘇の雄大な自然景観に親しめる。さらに、草で覆われた火口跡は牛馬の放牧場になっている。
