In 1956, 19 Christian democratic parties in Western Europe formed an international organization called the Union of Christian Democrats in Europe, and also formed a unified faction in the European Parliament called the Parti Populaire Européen. Latin America also has its own international organization, and a global organization called the Union of Christian Democrats in the World. Christian Democracy originally referred to a political movement that sought to address the various contradictions in modern society from a Christian perspective, and it is said that the first examples of this movement appeared in France during the July Revolution of 1830 and the February Revolution of 1848.
