A general term for tea kettles cast in Ashiyazu at the mouth of the Onga River in Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture) from the Kamakura to Momoyama periods. They are characterized by their shinnari shape, demon mask-like rings, and silk or catfish skin. They also feature patterns of suhama, pine, plum, bamboo, cranes, and horses. With the emergence of Kyo kettles, they fell into decline in the early Edo period. Along with Tenmyo kettles, they are representative of ancient kettles.
