Sultan (of Circassian descent) who was the longest-reigning Mamluk sultan (1468-96). He put down a five-year-long rebellion by the Turkmen tribes in northern Syria, and then repelled an invasion of the Syrian border by the Ak-Koyunlu dynasty. He welcomed the exiled Ottoman prince Jem into the country, which led to rifts with the dynasty, but after sending three punitive forces to the dynasty he made peace. Domestically he was troubled by rising war costs and the need to control the tyrannical Sharban army, but he was a capable ruler who was skilled in tactics, courageous, and well-informed about world affairs.

ブルジー･マムルーク朝では在位最長(1468‐96)のスルタン(チェルケス系)。シリア北方のトルクメン族による5年に及ぶ大反乱を鎮圧，次いでアク･コユンル朝によるシリア辺境地への侵略を撃退した。オスマン帝国の亡命王子ジェムを迎え入れたことから同朝との不和が激化して武力衝突に発展するが，3回に及ぶ討伐軍を派遣した後に和平を結ぶ。内政では戦費の増大と横暴なシャルバーン兵団の統制に悩まされたが，戦術に優れ，勇敢で世界事情に通じた有能な支配者であった。
