Aki family

…He was the first female obstetrician in Japan employed by the Muromachi Shogunate, and in 1358 (Shohei 13, Enbun 3), he was appointed as a Shoyaku for his achievements in the birth of the wife of the second Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiakira, Kirako (whose child would later become the third Shogun, Yoshimitsu). During the Kakei era (1387-89), he was promoted to the rank of Jushii Jo and appointed as Daizen-no-jo. The Aki family was in charge of childbirth for the Ashikaga Shoguns for generations, and the Gosansho Nikki (Diary of a Mother's Place) is known as a record of this. His medicines included Shinsensan, a pre- and post-natal medicine associated with the dragon god legend. …
