A former town in Iki District, Nagasaki Prefecture. It occupies the eastern half of Iki Island, with the main settlements on the east coast. Coastal fishing and rice cultivation using groundwater are practiced, and the town also produces tobacco leaves and beef cattle. Scenic spots such as Akase-hana and Chojaharazaki belong to the Iki-Tsushima Quasi-National Park. In March 2004, it merged with the towns of Gonoura, Katsumoto, and Ishida in Iki District to form Iki City. 45.12 km2 . Population 9,250 (2003).
