Japanese: hot metal system(英語表記)hotmetalsystem
hot metal system

…Newspaper article Journalist
[Production]
Until after World War II, newspapers were made by selecting type from manuscripts sent by the editorial department, composing them into 15-character spaces (bunsen), then following instructions from the editor, they were surrounded by lines or arranged into special spaces (minor composition), and assembled into a single page (major composition). A paper template was placed on top of the type and pressure was applied to make a paper template (paper template making), the paper template was bent into a semicircle, and lead alloy bullion melted at 600 degrees Celsius was poured into it to make a lead plate (lead plate casting), which was then printed on a rotary press. This process was called the HTS (hot type system) or hot metal system. Incidentally, the Japanese newspaper industry unified the standards for basic type, newspaper ink, roll paper, and paper template between 1949 and 1965.
