...The series of poems by Heim, which visualized the anxiety of the big city, and Jakob van Hoddis's (1887-1942) poem "Weltende (End of the World)" were the sparks of Expressionist lyric poetry, but in terms of the strength of its influence on later generations, the scenes of the destruction of the human body depicted in Gottfried Benn's collection of poems "Morgue" (1912) and the abyss of the soul and dreams of bliss expressed in G. Trakl's poems stand out. Furthermore, the style of poetry called "parallelism", which lists short lines of verse as if ignoring the context of the preceding and following sentences, as typified by Alfred Lichtenstein's (1889-1914) poem "Dämmerung", is also developed by Expressionism. A. Stram's poetry takes this a step further, in which words stand side by side, freed from syntactic relations, seeking new relationships.

…大都会の不安をイメージ化したハイムの一連の詩とヤコプ･ファン･ホディスJakob van Hoddis(1887‐1942)の詩《世界の終りWeltende》とが表現主義抒情詩の口火となったものだが，後の時代への影響力の強さからいえば，ゴットフリート･ベンの詩集《死体公示所Morgue》(1912)に描かれる人間の肉体の破局のさまと，G.トラークルの詩に表現される魂の奈落の深さと浄福の夢がきわだっている。さらにまたアルフレート･リヒテンシュタインAlfred Lichtenstein(1889‐1914)の詩《夕暮れDämmerung》に代表的に見られるのだが，前後の脈絡を無視するかのように短文の詩句を羅列してゆく〈並列体〉と称する詩作も表現主義が開発したスタイルである。それをさらに進めたのがA.シュトラムの詩で，ここでは単語がシンタクスの関係から解き放たれて立ち並び，新たな関係を求め合っている。…
