"Beautiful Japan - My Introduction" - Utsukushii Nihon no Watashi

...In 1968, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Japanese to do so, for Snow Country and his postwar works Thousand Cranes and The Ancient Capital (1961-62). In his commemorative speech, My Beautiful Japan: An Introduction, he expounded on the essence of Japanese beauty and emptiness that is different from Western nihilism. He committed suicide in his workroom in April 1972.
