...So in 1577, Pope Gregory XIII organized a committee to reform the calendar. The proposal for the calendar reform was made by Aloysius Lilius (Italian name Luigi Lilio, c. 1510-c. 1576), a medical lecturer at the University of Perugia, and his brother Antony.
