An illustrated guide to famous tea utensils compiled during the Edo period. Written by Matsudaira Fumai under the name Tosai Shoko Roujin, it consists of 18 volumes. It has a preface written by Fumai in 1787 (Tenmei 7), and was published in four installments over a nine-year period starting in 1789 (Kansei 1). It is made up of eight sections: famous tea utensils from the middle ages, famous tea utensils of the great revival, famous tea utensils of the great revival, Atogama Kuniyaki, Tenmoku tea bowls, Raku tea bowls, miscellaneous notes, selected works, and famous pieces. It names and ranks famous tea utensils of the great revival, famous tea utensils, and famous tea utensils of the middle ages, making it the best tea book on famous tea utensils throughout the Edo period.
