Stone quarry - Ishikiriba

Japanese:
Stone quarry - Ishikiriba

Generally, it refers to a place where stone materials for civil engineering and construction are mined, but it often also includes quarries for crushed stone for concrete aggregate, limestone, dolomite, and non-metallic mineral resources such as iron sand, acid clay, pottery stone, and diatomaceous earth. Most mining is done by open-cut mining, which sometimes creates large vertical rock walls. A good example is the Oyaishi stone quarry on the outskirts of Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture. In the case of stone, it is necessary to cut as large and regular a shape as possible, so wedges and wire saws are used, and explosive blasting is secondary. On the other hand, in quarries for concrete aggregate, limestone, and dolomite, mining is done by drilling and large-scale blasting. Quarries for concrete aggregate are equipped with crushers and sorting machines, and crushed stone is sorted according to its use and transported. There are some large quarries with their own tracks, but most are small.
