A method to extract extremely small amounts of uranium (3 to 3.5 ppb) contained in seawater. If the total volume of seawater on Earth is ^1.37 x ¹⁰⁹ km3, the total amount of uranium contained in seawater is enormous, about 4.5 billion tons, so research and development has continued as one method of securing uranium resources. Uranium recovery methods include coprecipitation, adsorption, flotation, and solvent extraction. The adsorption method is the most promising, and adsorbents such as titanium oxide hydroxide and amidoxime-type chelating resin are thought to be effective.

海水中に含まれる3～3.5ppbというきわめて微量のウランを取り出す方法。地球上の全海水量を 1.37×10⁹km³ とすると海水中に含まれるウランの総量は約 45億tと膨大な量になるため，ウラン資源確保の方策の一つとして研究開発が続けられてきた。ウランの回収法には，共沈法，吸着法，浮選法，溶媒抽出法などがある。吸着法が最も有望であり，含水酸化チタンやアミドキシム型キレート樹脂などの吸着剤が有効と考えられている。
