The capital of Ryazan Oblast in western Russia. It is located about 180 km southeast of Moscow, on the middle reaches of the Oka River. Ryazan, which appears in records from 1095, was located on the coast downstream from its current location, about 50 km southeast of the current location, at the flowing point of the Pronya River. It developed as the early capital of the Ryazan Principality, but was completely destroyed by the Tatar invasion in 1237. The current town began as Pereyaslavl'-Ryazansky in 1095, and became the capital of the Ryazan Principality in the 15th century, but was annexed to the Grand Duchy of Moscow in 1521. It was renamed Ryazan in 1778. Architectural monuments such as the Kremlin (fortress) and the Dormition Cathedral are preserved within the city. Since the start of the oil refining and petrochemical industries in the 1960s, it has rapidly developed, and currently there are other industries such as machinery (presses, agricultural machinery) and food. There are universities of education, medicine, agriculture, radio engineering, etc. A railway junction connected to Moscow by railway and highway. Population: 525,062 (2010). ロシア西部,リャザン州の州都。モスクワの南東約 180kmにあり,オカ川中流部にのぞむ。 1095年の記録に現れるリャザンは現在地より下流の沿岸,約 50km南東のプロニャ川流入点にあり,リャザン公国初期の首都として発展したが,1237年タタール人の来襲により完全に破壊された。現在の町は 1095年ペレヤスラブリリャザンスキー Pereyaslavl'-Ryazanskyとして始り,15世紀にリャザン公国の首都となったが,1521年モスクワ大公国に併合された。 1778年リャザンに改称。市内にクレムリン (城砦) ,ウスペンスキー大聖堂などの建築記念物が保存されている。 1960年代に石油精製と石油化学工業が始ってから急速に発展し,現在ほかに機械 (プレス機,農業機械) ,食品などの工業が立地する。教育,医学,農業,ラジオ工学などの大学がある。鉄道分岐点で,モスクワと鉄道,ハイウェーで連絡。人口 52万5062(2010)。
