Therefore, on ships, remote islands, and arid regions such as the Middle East, where seawater is the only water source, various methods have been used to remove salt from seawater (seawater desalination) to produce drinking water, and even today many seawater desalination plants have been built around the world to produce drinking water, industrial water, agricultural water, and more.
