Desalination of sea water

It is also simply called desalinization. Seawater contains about 35g of inorganic substances such as sodium and chlorine per liter, and cannot be used as drinking water in this state. Therefore, on ships, remote islands, and arid regions such as the Middle East, where seawater is the only water source, various methods have been used to remove salt from seawater (seawater desalination) to produce drinking water, and even today many seawater desalination plants have been built around the world to produce drinking water, industrial water, agricultural water, and more. The main methods are described below.

単に淡水化ともいう。海水中には1l当り約35gのナトリウムや塩素などの無機物が含まれていて，このままでは飲料水として使用できない。そこで海水しか水源がない船舶，離島，中東地区などの乾燥地帯では，いろいろの方法で海水から塩分を除き(海水脱塩)，飲料水を製造してきたし，現在でも世界各地で数多くの海水淡水化プラントが建設され，飲料水，工業用水，農業用水などの製造が行われている。以下，その主要な方法について述べる。
