Taisho period

Japanese:
Taisho period
Generally, it refers to the reign of Emperor Taisho (1912-26), but historically it refers to the period from 1905, when a nationwide popular movement broke out against the peace treaty of the Russo-Japanese War, which criticized clan-based bureaucratic politics, to 1925, when the political reforms of the Kato Takaaki cabinet, which was formed as a result of the second constitutional protection movement, were carried out and a party political system was established. The period was characterized by the progress of democratization known as Taisho Democracy in the political, social and cultural fields, against the backdrop of the rapid growth of capitalism which resulted in the establishment of monopoly capitalism, and the political advancement of the middle class and the proletariat (workers and farmers).
