[Born] Qianlong 37 (1772) Died in 1843. Guangzhou. A Chinese official in the late Qing Dynasty. A member of the Manchu Yellow Banner. A Jinshi in 1810. He served as governor of Shaanxi, Shandong, and Yunnan, and in 1833 he became Governor-General of Yungui and in 1846 he became Governor-General of Liangjiang. In 1847, during the Opium War, he marched to Zhejiang as a royal commissioner and attempted to recapture the Zhoushan Islands, but failed, for which he was dismissed and punished. He was later appointed again, and in 1850, together with Keying, he signed the Treaty of Nanking as a plenipotentiary of the Qing dynasty. He then served as a royal commissioner and General of Guangzhou, negotiating the treaty of commerce, but died of an illness there.
