According to the Kusha-ron, there are first eight hot hells, which are (1) Equal Bliss, (2) Black Rope, (3) All Together, (4) Shouting, (5) Loud Shouting, (6) Burning Heat, (7) Extreme Heat, and (8) Hell. (1) is a hell in which one is tortured to the point of dying, only to come back to life and be tortured again. (2) is a hell in which lines are drawn on one's body with a carpenter's ink thread and one is cut according to those lines. (8) is a hell in which one is tortured without ceasing, and is also called abi, a transliteration of the original word avici.
