...A unit of the Self-Defense Forces whose main mission is to operate at sea, equivalent to the navies of other countries. Externally, it is called the Maritime Self-Defense Force, abbreviated as MSDF.
[History]
On June 25, 1950, the Korean War broke out, and on July 8, General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers, sent a letter to Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida, which led to the establishment of the National Police Reserve and an increase in the number of personnel in the Japan Coast Guard.
