Armpit - axilla; armpit
Commonly known as the armpit. The area is bounded on the left and right by the upper arm and chest wall, and on the front and back by the attachments of the pectoralis major and latissimus dorsi muscles. The skin of the armpit contains hair and apocrine glands, which, when they are particularly active, give off a distinctive armpit odor. Around the axillary artery and vein, there is a group of lymph nodes called the axillary lymph nodes.
