modular coordination

...a basic unit of measurement for determining the size of architectural components or architectural space, or a set of such measurements. The adjustment of the dimensions of a building and its components using architectural modules is called modular coordination (or modular division). In the past, the general interpretation was that it played a role in determining the proportional relationship of the dimensions of each part of a building, but the term has only come into widespread use since World War I, and especially since World War II, when the industrialization of architecture began to progress in reality.
