Shima [town] - Island

Japanese: 志摩[町] - しま

A former town in Shima District, eastern Mie Prefecture. It occupies the Sakishima Peninsula at the southern tip of the Shima Peninsula, and faces Ago Bay to the north. Pearl farming in the bay, as well as fishing for abalone and spiny lobster, are thriving, and Wagu, located in the center, is famous as a town for female divers. It belongs to Ise-Shima National Park, and Oshima Island to the south is rich in tropical plants such as sea lilies. In October 2004, it merged with Hamajima Town, Daio Town, Ago Town, and Isobe Town in Shima District to form Shima City. 17.01 ^km2 . Population: 14,818 (2003).

A former town in Itoshima County, western Fukuoka Prefecture. It occupies the western part of the Itoshima Peninsula, and includes Himeshima Island to the west. It is a prolific producer of vegetables, strawberries, and mandarin oranges, and fishing is also practiced. The coast and Himeshima Island belong to the Genkai Quasi-National Park, and there are scenic spots such as Keyanooto and Kayayama. In January 2010, it merged with Maebaru City and Nijo Town, Itoshima County, to form Itoshima City. 54.55 ^km2 . Population: 17,290 (2005).

三重県東部，志摩郡の旧町。志摩半島南端の先志摩半島を占め，北は英虞(あご)湾に臨む。湾内の真珠養殖をはじめ，アワビ，イセエビなどの漁業が盛んで，中心の和具(わぐ)は海女(あま)の町として有名。伊勢志摩国立公園に属し，南方の大島はハマユウなど暖地性植物が豊富。2004年10月志摩郡浜島町，大王町，阿児町，磯部町と合併し，志摩市となる。17.01km²。１万4818人（2003）。

福岡県西部，糸島郡の旧町。糸島半島西部を占め，西方の姫島を含む。野菜やイチゴ，ミカンの多産地で，漁業も行われる。海岸や姫島は玄海国定公園に属し，芥屋大門(けやのおおと)，可也(かや)山などの景勝地がある。2010年１月前原市，糸島郡二丈町と合併，糸島市となる。54.55km²。１万7290人（2005）。
