Analytic continuation

Japanese: 解析接続 - かいせきせつぞく（英語表記）analytic continuation

An operation that expands the domain of a function f ( z ) on the complex plane while maintaining its regularity. When a function f ( z ) is regular in a domain D , if there is a regular function F ( z ) in a domain D ^* that contains D as a proper subset, and if it is equal to f ( z ) in D , then F ( z ) is called an analytic continuation of f ( z ). In this case, F ( z ) can be seen as an extension of the domain to D ^* while maintaining the regularity of f ( z ). This operation of domain expansion itself is sometimes called an analytic continuation. If such an expansion is possible, there is only one way to do it. In other words, if D , D ^* , and f ( z ) are defined, then if an analytic continuation exists, it is limited to only one.

複素平面上で，正則性を保ちながら，関数 f(z) の定義域を拡大する操作をいう。関数 f(z) が領域 D で正則であるとき，D を真部分集合として含む領域 D^* で正則な関数 F(z) があって，それが D では f(z) に等しいならば，F(z) を f(z) の解析接続という。このとき F(z) は f(z) の正則性を保ちながら，D^* までその領域を拡大したものとみることができる。このような領域拡大の操作自体を解析接続ということもある。このような拡大ができるとすれば，その仕方はただ1通りである。すなわち D ，D^* ，f(z) を定めた場合，もし解析接続が存在するとすれば，それはただ1つに限られる。
