? - 43 years ago Roman politician of the 1st century BC. He served Caesar as a subordinate and secretary-general during Caesar's Gallic campaign from around 54 BC. Hirtius wrote the eighth and final volume of Caesar's Gallic Wars, and he is mainly known for this. After the civil war broke out, he traveled with Caesar to Spain and Greece. He served as praetor in 46 BC, governor of Gaul in 45 BC, and consul in 43 BC, but was killed in battle at Mutina in northern Italy in the same year during a battle with the Antoninians.
