1889‐1934 Leader of the Ukrainian peasant movement. Anarchist. Born the son of a peasant family in the village of Hulyai Pole, Yekaterinoslav County (now Zaporozhian Oblast). From the time of the 1905 Revolution, he participated in attacks on police, merchants, and wealthy people as a member of anarchist groups, and was arrested in 1908. After the February Revolution in 1917, he was released and returned to his hometown, where he became a leader of the peasant movement.
