This refers to a figure that appears in two different ways, alternating between the same figure. A type of ambiguous figure. A figure in which a certain area appears as both the figure and the ground is called a figure-ground reversible figure, and EJ Rubin's cup and profile figure is one example. A plane figure in which the sense of perspective is reversed is called a perspective reversible figure, and the Necker cube is one example.
