This refers to the amendment made by Chairman Hitoshi Ashida in August 1946 at the Japanese Government's Subcommittee on Constitutional Revision, which deliberated on a draft amendment to the Constitution, to insert the words "in order to achieve the purpose of the preceding paragraph" at the beginning of Article 9, paragraph 2. → Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan
