〘noun〙① To change clothes. A change of clothes. Also, a change of clothes in early summer. ※Meiho Orai (mid-11th century?) Uehon " Three kimonos were donated. In the room for changing clothes. Originally, this was a position to serve the emperor with changing clothes, but later it came to refer to the emperor's wife. A woman from a family of nagon or lower rank, with a rank below that of nyogo. Usually, some would advance to fifth rank, and occasionally to fourth rank.
