neighbouring rights

...The rights granted to performers, phonogram producers, broadcasting organizations, and cable broadcasting organizations are neighboring rights (Copyright Law, Articles 89 to 104). They are called neighboring rights because they are adjacent to copyright, and in Japan they were established in the 1970 revision of the Copyright Law (performances and phonograms were protected to some extent under the old law). They incorporate the International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations (also called the Rome Convention, the Convention for the Protection of Performers, etc.), which was created by UNESCO, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the Berne Union.
