…It is the largest lake in Europe, covering an area of ​​18,400 km2 (including the total area of ​​600 km2 of about 500 islands). It was formerly called Lake Nevo, and its name is derived from the Neva River that flows out of the lake. The northwestern end of the lake is the same shape as the submerged bottom of a continental glacier from the Quaternary Ice Age, and the shoreline of the lake is marked by small fjords and drowned valleys.
