Lake Kawaguchi [town] - Kawaguchiko

Japanese: 河口湖[町] - かわぐちこ

This is an old town in Minamitsuru County in southern Yamanashi Prefecture, occupying Lake Kawaguchi and its surrounding areas. It belongs to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, and the main settlement, Funatsu, on the southeastern shore of the lake is the end point of the Fujikyu Railway and the starting point of the Fuji Subaru Line, making it a tourist base. It is served by the Chuo Expressway, and is also home to Tenjo Mountain, Fuji-Q Highland, and the museum. The Kawaguchi area on the north shore was a former post station on the Kamakura Kaido road, and is the trailhead for Mt. Mitsutoge. In November 2003, it merged with Katsuyama Village and Ashiwada Village in Minamitsuru County to form Fujikawaguchiko Town. It has an area of 60.89 ^km2 and a population of 19,362 (2003).
