A former town in Mitoyo District, southwestern Kagawa Prefecture. Development of the Mitoyo Plain alluvial fan in the north was delayed due to a lack of water, but after the completion of Honen Pond in 1930, irrigation led to the development of rice, wheat, and tobacco cultivation. It is one of the leading producers of onions and lettuce in the country, and also produces mandarin oranges. The Yosan Line and Takamatsu Expressway pass through the town, and a long ropeway runs to Mount Unpenji in the Sanuki Mountains. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Toyohama Town, Mitoyo District, and Kan'onji City. 51.66 km2 . Population: 13,165 (2003). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
