Born: October 25, 1800, Stuttgart Died January 3, 1876. German orientalist in Paris. Professor at the University of Tübingen from 1826 to 1833. In 1826 he was commissioned by the French government to translate the Persian national epic poem "Shahnameh," and he devoted his life to its study (7 volumes, 1838-78). In 1847 he became president of the Collège de France and the Society of Asiatics. His main work was "Fragments of Zoroastrianism" (29). mall |
