Ajikan - Ajikan

It is one of the meditation methods of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. The Aji character is the origin of all things, and is itself unborn (originally unborn), and the aim is to integrate one's own perception into this theory. After preparing a dojo, one places a hanging scroll depicting the Aji character in a white moon-shaped circle on a lotus stand, sits in front of it, regulates one's breathing, and concentrates one's perception on the Aji character. When the mind and the Aji character become one, enlightenment is realized. There are various practices in Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, but this Aji meditation is simple and easy to perform, yet is a profound practice that reaches the secrets of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, and the guidance of an ajari is considered essential for its practical practice. There are many works that record the process of Ajikan, including "Ajikan Yojinkuketsu" written by Kukai's senior disciple Jichie.

真言(しんごん)密教の観法(かんぼう)の一つ。阿字は一切の事物の本源であり、それ自体は不生である（本不生(ほんぷしょう)）と観じ、自己の観念をその理に合入することを目ざす。道場を整え、蓮華(れんげ)の台上の白い月輪(がちりん)の中に阿字を描いた掛軸を掲げ、その前に座って呼吸を整え、観念をその阿字に集中し、心と阿字が一つになったとき、そこに悟りが実現するとする。真言密教には種々の行法(ぎょうぼう)があるが、この阿字観は簡要で行いやすく、しかも真言密教の極意に達する深奥(しんおう)の行法であり、その実修にあたっては、阿闍梨(あじゃり)の指導が不可欠とされる。阿字観の次第を記したものは、空海の高弟実慧(じちえ)の著した『阿字観用心口訣(ようじんくけつ)』ほか数多い。
