Japanese: 河原巻物 - かわらまきもの

This is a general term for the historiographies handed down in discriminated communities across the country, such as the Mikuni Chori Yuraiki, Hiruko Sueryu Yuraiki, and Hida Yuraiki. Morita Yoshinori [1912-1981] coined the term "Kawahara Scroll" because the name of the "Kawahara Yuraiki," which is thought to have been created early among them and is widely distributed, and because these historiographies are in the form of scrolls, and this term became established. Both are forgeries thought to have been created in the early modern period, but the "Kawahara Yuraiki" describes Entarō Prince, the son of Pangu, as its ancestor, and the "Yawata Jūrai Sōdōki" relates him to Empress Jingū's expedition to the Three Kingdoms, and so they are structured to explain the origins of current status and privileges by linking them to the mythological and narrative world of the ancient and medieval periods. As with the legend of Prince Koretaka in the woodcarver group, this is a noteworthy example of a world of legend and narrative that explains reality. → Narrative literature

《三国長吏由来記》《蛭子末流由来記》《皮田由来書》など，各地の被差別部落に伝わる由来書を総称していう。盛田嘉徳〔1912-1981〕が，その中でも早くに成立したと思われ，広く分布している《河原由来書》の名と，これらの由来書が巻物の形をとることから，〈河原巻物〉という用語を提唱して定着した。いずれも近世期の成立と考えられる偽文書だが，《河原由来書》では盤古の子の〈縁太羅王子〉を自らの始祖とし，また《八幡重来授与記》では神功皇后の三韓出兵と関わらせるなど，古代・中世の神話的説話的世界に接合して，現在の地位や特権の起こりを説くという構造をもつ。木地屋集団における惟喬(これたか)親王伝説などと同じく，伝承・説話的世界から，逆に現実を説いた例として注目すべきである。→説話文学
