A perennial aquatic plant of the Nymphaeaceae family native to Bolivia and the Amazon region. It is the largest species in the Nymphaeaceae family. It is named after Euryale ulmata because it is larger than it is, but it is a different genus from Euryale ulmata. It produces large circular floating leaves with a diameter of 1 to 2 m, and the leaf margins are curved upward about 5 cm into a truncated shape. The leaf surface is green and glossy, and there are many thorns on the petiole, under-vein, flower stalk and sepals. The flowers are fragrant white and about 30 cm in diameter. After blooming, the color changes from pink to crimson and finishes blooming three days later. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
