Orvieto, a city in central Italy, is a cathedral of mixed Romanesque and Gothic style. It has a three-aisled plan, with the nave walls supported by columns. Construction was probably begun in 1285 by A. Cambio to commemorate the miracle of Bolsena. It was completed in 1319, but the work was taken over by Maitani after 1310, and the upper part of the façade and the interior decoration continued until the 16th century. Inside the cathedral, the Corporal Chapel contains a silver reliquary decorated with enamel and reliefs by Ugolino di Bieri in 1330, and the ceiling and walls of the San Brizio Chapel are decorated with murals by Angelico and a fresco of the Last Judgment by Signorelli.
