How to origami

Japanese: 折紙方 - おりがみかた

A department under the jurisdiction of the Mandokoro in the Muromachi Shogunate. It handled monetary gifts such as toburaisen (visiting sen) that the Shogun gave to others. It is assumed that, like the Nozenikata, it was made up of several merchants from the Dokura and other areas, and was obligated to pay monetary gifts to the Shogunate in exchange for appropriate rights and interests. Historical materials that directly prove its existence include an entry for May 25, 1465 (Kansho 6) in Ninagawa Chikamoto's diary, Chikamoto Nikki, which reads, "Since the Origamikata were reluctant to pay the toburaisen to Jionji Temple, I asked the Nozenikata to do so," and an entry for April 3, 1540 (Tenbun 9) in Odate Tsuneoki Nikki, which reads, "The wages for the three wet nurses are overdue for February, but there are no more in the storehouse, so I suggest you ask one of the Origamikata to do so." However, details such as its composition and the role it played in the Shogunate's financial system have not been clarified.

室町幕府において政所が所管した部局。訪銭（とぶらいせん）など，将軍が他へ贈進する金品を扱った。納銭方と同様に土倉などの商人数人で構成され，しかるべき権益と引換えに幕府に対して金品の上納が義務づけられていたと推測されている。直接その存在を示す史料として，蜷川親元の日記《親元日記》寛正6年(1465)5月25日条の〈慈恩寺に対する訪銭の支出を折紙方が渋ったので納銭方に申し付けた〉という記事と，《大館常興日記》天文9年(1540)4月3日条の〈乳女3人に対する給与が2月滞っているが御倉に無いので折紙方の一人に申し付けてはどうか〉という記事等が紹介されているが，その構成，幕府財政機構においてどんな役割を負ったかなど，詳しいことは明らかにされていない。
