Radcliffe Report

A report prepared in May 1959 by the Committee on the Working of the Monetary System (commonly known as the Radcliffe Committee) with the aim of reexamining the British monetary system. This report pointed out the importance of controlling general liquidity, including the quantity of money, whereas previous monetary policies had been concerned with controlling the quantity of money. In other words, it focused on general liquidity, such as cash on hand, the composition and liquidity of financial assets, and the ease of borrowing, and considered that such general liquidity determines the spending attitude of economic agents and bank lending, thereby affecting the level of total effective demand.

イギリスの金融制度を再検討する目的で「金融制度の作用に関する委員会」 Committee on the Working of the Monetary System (通称ラドクリフ委員会) が 1959年5月に作成した報告書。この報告は従来の金融政策が通貨量のコントロールに関心をもっていたのに対し，通貨量を含めた一般的流動性のコントロールの重要性を指摘している。すなわち手持ち現金状況，金融資産の構成および流動性，借入れの難易などの流動性全般に着目し，このような一般的流動性が経済主体の支出態度，銀行の貸出しを規定し，総有効需要水準に影響を及ぼすと考えた。
