Spilanthes acumella L.

Japanese: オランダセンニチ（英語表記）Spilanthes acumella L.

An annual plant of the Asteraceae family native to Southeast Asia. Its flowers look similar to those of the Amaranthaceae family, so it is also known as the amaranth. It grows to a height of about 30cm, branches well at ground level, and has broad, ovate, brownish-green leaves that grow opposite each other. From July to September, it produces long, spherical flower heads about 2cm in diameter at the tops of the branched stems, but has no ray flowers. It is a cluster of tubular flowers, the open ones are green-yellow, and the flowers at the top that do not open are brown, and because of their interesting coloring, it is sometimes cultivated as cut flowers.

東南アジア原産のキク科の一年草。見たところ花がヒユ科のセンニチコウに似ているので，センニチモドキの別名がある。草丈は約30cm，地際でよく枝を分け，褐色がかった緑色の広卵形の葉を対生する。7～9月に枝を分けた茎頂に直径約2cmの長球形の頭状花をつけるが，舌状花はまったくない。管状花ばかりの集まりで，開いたものは緑黄色，頂部の開かない花は褐色で，その色合いがおもしろいので切花として栽培されることがある。
