Personalism

Japanese: personalismo
Personalism

…This has created a disconnect between law and society, and, combined with bad legalism and formalism that easily relies on legislation instead of fundamental social reform, has eroded the public's trust in the law. [Akio Sato]
[Politics]
Many of the political phenomena occurring in Latin America today can be understood in terms of two factors: the partial decline of personalism (the principle of direct human relations) and the collapse of populism (populism).
[The decline of personalismo]
Most Latin American countries achieved independence in the first half of the 19th century, but failed to establish political organizations that were recognized as legitimate by the population after the collapse of the colonial administration. As a result, criollos (whites born in the colony) seeking political participation turned to groups based on direct human relationships, such as extended kinship, compadresgos, and patron-client relationships, rather than impersonal political organizations.
