Cassia lignea (English spelling) Cassialignea

...It must be borne in mind that sandalwood came from Asia, from India, East.
[Spices from the west and condiments from the east]
Cinnamon and cassia are representative of cinnamon, which grows widely from India to Southeast Asia, but its history seems to be oldest in India. From the upper reaches of the Indus River in the northwest to Nepal, Sikkim, and Assam in the east, cinnamon species (mainly Cassia lignea ), which contain eugenol (a clove-like smell) in the leaves and linalool (a camphor-like smell) in the bark, are used for medicinal and seasoning purposes. Dried leaves of this type of cinnamon from the mountainous regions deep in Myanmar are called malabetram, and were sent to Rome around the time of Christ, where they are highly valued as cosmetics, a flavoring for wine, and for medicinal purposes.
