Mr. Tachibana

Japanese:
Mr. Tachibana

A branch of the Otomo clan in Chikuzen from the Northern and Southern Courts to the Warring States period. Later, they became the lord of Yanagawa (Yanagawa) Domain in Chikugo. Sadatsugu, the son of the 6th Otomo clan leader Sadamune, based himself in Tachibanayama Castle in Chikuzen (Kasuya County, Fukuoka Prefecture) and called himself the Tachibana clan. Sadatsugu had no children, so his younger brother Munetada inherited the family headship. His descendant Akitoshi conspired with the Mori clan in 1568 (Eiroku 11) and plotted a rebellion against the Otomo clan, but was killed by Otomo Sorin. Sorin moved one of his clan members, Bekki Akitsura, to Tachibanayama Castle and had him defend it. Kantsurane adopted the son of Takahashi Shigetane (Joun). This was Tachibana Muneshige. Muneshige became the lord of Yanagawa Castle in 1587 (Tensho 15), and although his estate was temporarily confiscated after the Battle of Sekigahara, he returned to Yanagawa Castle in 1620 (Genwa 6). Since then, his descendants have inherited the title and in the Meiji period he became a count.
