Yuzuruha Mountains

A fault mountain range in the southern part of Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. The 400-500 meter high mountain range stretches from east to west, with the highest peak, Mount Yuzuruha (608 meters), at its center. It is located at the junction of the Izumi Mountains in the Kinki region and the Sanuki Mountains in Shikoku, and is mainly composed of the Izumi Sandstone Formation. The northern side is a gentle slope, but the southern side forms a prominent fault cliff that faces the Kii Channel and is part of the Median Tectonic Line that runs through southwestern Japan. Wild daffodils and Naruto mandarin oranges can be seen in abundance on the southern slope.

兵庫県淡路島南部にある断層山地。最高峰の諭鶴羽山（608メートル）を中心として、400～500メートル級の山地が東西に延びる。近畿地方の和泉(いずみ)山脈から四国の讃岐(さぬき)山脈に連なる接点にあり、おもに和泉砂岩層からなる。北側は緩傾斜だが、南側は顕著な断層崖(がい)となって紀伊水道に臨み、西南日本を走る中央構造線の一部となる。南斜面には野生のスイセンや鳴門(なると)ミカンが多くみられる。
