…Initially, the business involved the manufacture, issuance, and exchange of paper money, but in 1877 it was renamed the Banknote Bureau, and the following year, the Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau. The issuance and exchange work was transferred to the Ministry of Finance, and it has continued to operate as a government agency since then. During that time, in 1875 it merged with the Dajokan's Printing Bureau and began operating a typesetting printing business under the name of Banknote Bureau. In 1898 it merged with the Cabinet's Official Gazette Bureau and was renamed the Cabinet Printing Bureau. In 1943 it became the Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau again, and in 1949 it became the Printing Bureau, and in 1952 it became the Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau for a third time, and remains so to this day. The bureau receives orders for printing from various government agencies, including the national and prefectural governments, and handles everything from papermaking to printing, printing Bank of Japan notes, government checks, postage stamps, postal stamps, postcards, money orders, savings passbooks, and other securities, as well as the Official Gazette and other books for various government agencies. …

…当初は紙幣の製造･発行･交換などを業としたが，77年紙幣局，翌78年大蔵省印刷局と改称され，発行･交換の仕事は大蔵省に移され，以後作業官庁として現在にいたった。その間，75年太政官の印書局と統合して紙幣寮の名称で活版印刷事業も行うようになり，98年内閣の官報局と併合され内閣印刷局と改称，さらに1943年ふたたび大蔵省印刷局，49年印刷庁となったが，52年三たび大蔵省印刷局となって現在にいたっている。同局は，国または都道府県庁など政府諸機関の印刷物を受注し，製紙から印刷までを行い，日本銀行券をはじめ，政府小切手，切手･印紙類，郵便はがき，為替証書，貯金通帳などの証券類および《官報》その他各官庁の書物を印刷している。…
