Omogokei

Japanese:
Omogokei

This is a valley in the upper reaches of the Omo River, which originates at the southern foot of Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest peak in Shikoku. It is a national scenic spot. It is surrounded by mature mountain ranges over 1,500 meters high, forming a V-shaped valley with a series of waterfalls, rapids, pools, and meandering streams. With its typical beautiful valley scenery, it was designated Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park in 1955 (Showa 30). At Kanmon, downstream of the valley, the plate-like joints of pyroxene andesite have been eroded by the river to form cliffs reaching a height of 70 meters. In Soshikei, upstream of Kanmon, the rocks change from the black andesite to the white granite. Further upstream, there is Kamebara, a huge exposed granite cliff wall measuring 100 meters high and 200 meters wide. Within the less than 10 kilometers length of the valley, there are many scenic spots such as Goshikigawara, Horaikyo, Momijigawara, Shimokumafuchi, Toragafuchi, and Goraikotaki waterfalls.
