A lithic culture defined by JL Giddings based on research at the Iyatayet site located at Cape Denbigh, which juts out into Norton Sound in western Alaska. It is currently considered to be an important component of the Far North Small Stone Tool Tradition (2300 BC - 1000 BC). Characteristic remains of this culture include microlith cores, microblades, burins, burin spalls, blade inserts, harpoon heads, and scrapers. The burin spalls in particular have secondary adjustments on their edges, indicating that they were used as small stone tools. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
