The branches are grayish white, with thin bark that peels easily. The leaves have short stalks and grow in opposite pairs. The leaf blade is thin, oblong, long and pointed at the tip, narrowly wedge-shaped at the base, and has sparsely scattered sharp serrations on the edges. In July and August, it produces cymes at the ends of the branches, and the outer few flowers have fused calyxes that develop into dish-like, shield-shaped, sterile decorative flowers. The white decorative flowers are circular with shallow 3-4 lobes, and have prominent reticulate veins on the surface. …
