Aquitania

Japanese: Aquitania
Aquitania

...Its scope has varied greatly over time, but today the term Aquitaine is usually used to refer to Guyenne, with its capital Bordeaux, and the surrounding areas, such as Aunis (with its capital La Rochelle), Saintonge, Angoumois, Périgord, Agenais, Quercy, and Gascogne.
[history]
The name "Aquitaine" comes from the fact that the region was conquered by Rome in 56 B.C. and made a province, and was called Aquitania (meaning "land of the waters"). The territory of this province was much larger than today's Aquitaine, and covered the entire southwestern part of Gaul from the Loire River to the Pyrenees. In this region, the Gauls accepted Roman rule without putting up much resistance, and for the next 250 years or so they were peacefully Romanized, and cities were built and prospered in various places.
